Examples of the past simple

Past simple 

• The event has passed completely
• You use: werkwoord + ed for regular verbs
• You use: 2nd column(2e rijtje)  for irregular verbs: do, did, done
• Examples:
  I learned about the past simple.
  I understood all of it.

Past continuous

• There are 2 events happening, one is longer than the other.
• You use: To be (was/ were) + werkwoord + ing
• Examples:
  I was studying for my exam when someone banged on my door.
  I was walking my dog when I saw the accident.
