In het Nederlands noemen we ze trappen van vergelijkingen.
Gebruik: Om mensen of dingen te beschrijven
Je vergelijkt ze met elkaar. 
Comparative: Vergrotende trap
  Superlative: Overtreffende trap.

Bij bijvoeglijke naamwoorden van één lettergreep die eindigen op a/e/i/o/u + een medeklinker wordt de laatste letter verdubbeld + -er en -est:
