Planning for today

  • Lookback last class (10 min)
  • 1.4: Gasexchange (10 min)
  • Opdrachten (20 min)

Slide 2 - Slide

at the end of class
... you can name the difference in air we inhale and exhale.
... you can explain how gasexchange happens in our lungs.

Exercise 1:
Write down 1 tm 7 and write down the right name.

This is a cross section of the windpipe and the Oesophagus.

Exercise 2:

Slide 6 - Slide

compostion air
  • Oxygen (O2) levels are higher in the air we inhale.

  • Carbon dioxide (CO2) levels higher in air we exhale.

  • Nitrogen levels stay the same.

Slide 7 - Slide

Alveoli
  • At the and of the bronchioles are alveoli.

  • This is where gasexchange happens.
O2 in.
CO2 uot.

Slide 8 - Slide

Alveoli
  • Alveoli are surrounded by lung capillaries (small bloodvessels)

  • Thin walls of the alveoli and capillaries & big surface area of alveoli cause rapid gasexchange.

       CO2
   O2

Slide 9 - Slide

Gasexchange
Oxygen from air -> blood from lung capillaries

Blood transports oxygen to all the cells.

Where the blood picks up carbon dioxide and brings it to the lungs.

Carbon dioxide from blood -> to air in alveoli
