a. We use have/get + object + past participle
when the subject causes the action, often by arranging for someone else to do it.

1. I painted my house.
2. I had my house painted.

The passive with have / get:
b. We use have / get + object + past participle 
when the subject experiences the action, 
especially if it is something unpleasant. 

E.g.: 
  • John had his window broken by a thief.
  • It's more likely to get your possesions stolen in a suburb.

c. in less formal contexts,
 we can sometimes use 'get' + past participle 
instead of 'be '+ past participle

E.g.:
I got my car fixed last week.

If the action is planned or intended, 
we usually use a passive with 'be' instead of 'get'.

E.g.
  • The protesters were arrested by the police.
