What do you remember about the past simple?

Past simple

past simple means.....      

• verleden tijd.
• look for words that indicate the past simple such as: yesterday, last week, a few hours ago, years ago, last summer, etc

Past simple

You make the past simple by adding -ed to a verb

We walked to school yesterday.

She liked strawberries, but not anymore.

William decided to move last year. 

Past simple

Sometimes the spelling changes:

Study becomes studied

Stop becomes stopped

Travel becomes travelled

Bridget - yesterday - to her girlfriend - to talk - at school

to decide - a few hours ago - to walk home - Peter

Past simple

To use the past simple in a negative sentence you use 

did not/didn't + verb

I didn't like the movie

To use the past simple in a question you use did + verb

Did you like the movie? 

Past simple

Past simple in regular sentences: put -ed at the end of the verb

past simple in negative sentences: put didn't in front of the base form of the verb

Past simple in questions: Put did in front of the pronoun and the base form of the verb

yesterday - to see - you - that airplane - ?

Anna - smoking - a few weeks ago - to stop

to school - Sheila - to cycle - not

Obi - last year - to cycle - to Spain

John - to watch - yesterday - that movie

Make this sentence negative
James travelled to Spain last year

Make this sentence a question:
They wasted a lot of paper last year
