Grammar in Use 11 Like / As

Like gebruik je voor vergelijkingen waarbij je figuurlijk iets bedoelt. In het Nederlands kun je bijvoorbeeld zeggen: het past als gegoten. In het Engels zou je dan zeggen: it fits like a glove (Het past als een handschoen.). Je bedoelt niet dat het écht zo is, maar het lijkt er wel op. Like komt vaak voor een persoonlijk voornaamwoord of zelfstandig naamwoord .

As gebruik je vaak om een vergelijking te maken. Je gebruikt het bijvoorbeeld om iemands beroep, positie of rol aan te geven. As wordt gebruikt voor bijzinnen en in combinatie met voorzetsels. Je kunt bijvoorbeeld zeggen: As in the past year, I am going to France (Net zoals vorig jaar, ga ik naar Frankrijk.). Een ander voorbeeld is: I work as a teacher at an elementary school (Ik werk als leraar op een basisschool).
