WHEN do you use the
present continuous?

Present continuous

1. to talk about actions that are happening now

2. to talk about actions that are happening around now (longer, ongoing action)

3. to talk about planned future arrangements

Subject + form of to be + verb + ing
I'm/am walking my dog

Present continuous

Spelling:

Most verbs = +ing (playing, reading, etc.)

Verbs ending in -e: remove -e and add -ing (bake - baking)

Verbs ending in -ie: change -ie to -ying (tie - tying)

Short verbs ending consonant + vowel + consonant: double the final consonant and add -ing (swi m - swimming)
