Slide 3 - Diapositive

Prior knowledge
  • If you want to give somebody advice on how to stay healthy, what would you tell them to do or not to do? Give me an example sentence in English.  Start with 'you'..
  • In our school, we follow a rule: "We ______ leave our phones in our lockers." Can you think of a word that would fit here?
  • Imagine you're overwhelmed with assignments. How would you complete this sentence: "I ______ to do so much homework every evening!"
  • Based on these three points, can you identify the differences in how 'should,' 'must,' and 'have to' are used?

Slide 4 - Diapositive

Have to and should
>Everyone has to go home by 5 pm.
>This is one of the most important questions we have to answer.

 > You should tell your sister you're sorry.
> You should finish your homework first.

Slide 5 - Diapositive

Must
>You must be 18 years or older to use this service.
>You must take your pills.

> He must be ready by now. (Hij moet nu wel klaar zijn.)
> Suzy left an hour ago, so she must be home now.
