Comparative & Superlative: When to use?

A 'Comparative & Superlative' are used when you compare people, animals or things.

Example:
A horse is bigger than a dog.

We will discuss the 'comparative' and the 'superlative'.
The smallest
Smaller than
Small

Comparative & Superlative: How to use?

With short words we use: -er (... than) and -est (the ...)


Example:
A car is faster than a bicycle.
Walking is the cheapest way to travel.

When a word ends in -e: only add -r and -st


Example:
nice --> Anthony has a nicer smile than Tom.
safe --> Which form of transport is the safest?

When a word ends in -y: -y is replaced by -ier and -iest

Example:
easy --> This route is much easier.
busy --> This is the busiest road in the city.

Short words ending in consonant + vowel + consonant: double the last consonant
Example:
big - bigger than - the biggest
thin - thinner than - the thinnest

bad - worse than - the worst

more ... than en the most ...

Example:
This bike is more expensive than yours.
That race car is the most powerful car there is.
