How & why Past Perfect?

Past Perfect

• Iets in het verleden is gebeurd voor iets anders in het verleden.
• Had + voltooid deelwoord
• Vaak in combinatie met een andere vorm van de verl. tijd.
• In de zin kom je vaak tegen: after, before, when, as soon as.
• Voorbeeld:
  I had arrived at the party after they opened the champagne.

• You are going to see a sentence of something that happened in the past. 
• Make up a situation that happened prior to the situation. 

Example:

He looked really sad.   ->  He had just heard that he lost his job, so he looked really sad.

She laughed really loud.

He shouted at the computer.

The teacher drank his coffee.

They jumped into the river.
