Past Perfect
  • Iets in het verleden is gebeurd voor iets anders in het verleden.
  • Had + voltooid deelwoord
  • Vaak in combinatie met een andere vorm van de verl. tijd.
  • In de zin kom je vaak tegen: after, before, when, as soon as.
  • Voorbeeld:
    I had arrived at the party after they opened the champagne.

  • Make up a situation that happened prior to the situation. 

Example:
He looked really sad.   ->  He had just heard that he lost his job, so he looked really sad.
