Gerunds and infinitives:

Gerund = a verb used as a noun ( zelfstnw)

What does it look like?             Verb+ ing

How are they used?

   Dancing is a popular form of self expression  ( subject= ond)

     I love singing                                                                  (object = lijdvw)

I'm interested in acting as a career      ( After a preposition)

Pay attention! 

You often have to choose between a gerund or an in finitive

But :

Some verbs can not be followed by an infinitive, only a gerund!

These are those verbs:

Admit, be used to, deny, can't help, can't stand, dislike, mind, don't mind, feel like, finish,imagine, keep, practise, spend time, enjoy

Write them in your notebooks!

Infinitive or Gerund, both are possible :

Love, like, hate or prefer!

I love singing on stage or : 

I love to sing on stage        

Infinitive + to :

To express purpose:

I sent her a message to invite her

after adjectives:

She was sad to miss the performance

A sense verb is a verb that has to do with the senses.

see, hear, feel.

How do you use them ?

of :

+ object + present participle ( ww + ing

examples :

2. Did you see the band performing?

1. She heard her neighbour scream.

2. She heard her neighbour screaming
