Key words §3.1
Climate (Klimaat): The average weather measured over a period of thirty years
Weather (Weer): What is happening at a specific time, and a specific place in the atmosphere
Tropical climate (Tropisch): A climate with (on average) temperatures above 18 degrees, and it rains all year
Savannah climate (Savanne): A climate with (on average) temperatures above 18 degrees, and with a wet and a dry season
Steppe climate (Steppe): A climate with high temperatures and little rain. The plants that grow here are mainly grasses.
Desert climate (Woestijn): A climate that is (often) very hot, and always extremely dry
Continental climate (Land): Climate with a major difference in temperature between summer and winter
Tundra climate (Toendra): In this climate the temperature does not get above 10 degrees.
Polar climate (Pool): A climate where the temperature never goes above zero degrees with lots of snow and ice.
Temperate sea climate (Gematigd zee): A climate where the difference in summer and winter is not that big, and it rains throughout the year.
Alpine climate (Hooggebergte): A cold climate that is not cold because of latitude, but because of height

Climate
Climate (Klimaat): The average weather measured over a period of thirty years
  • It consists of temperature
  • And precipitation
  • It is depicted like this ->

Climategraph
  • Tropical climate (Tropisch): A climate with (on average) temperatures above 18 degrees, and it rains all year

Slide 4 - Diapositive

Which climate is this?
Look at:
  • Precipitation (neerslag)
  • Average temperature
  • Maximum temperature
  • Do you see a dry season?

Slide 10 - Quiz

Tundra
  • Tundra climate (Toendra): In this climate the temperature does not get above 10 degrees.
  •  Precipitation (neerslag) is not relevant

Slide 11 - Diapositive

Is this graph from the Northern or Southern hemisphere
A
Northern
B
Southern

Slide 12 - Quiz

Northern hemisphere
  • The summer is in June/Juli, just like ours
  • So this is the northern hemisphere
