At the end of this lesson I will: 

- know the difference between direct and reported (indirect) Speech. 

- know which types of words I need to change when rewriting from direct to indirect speech

- have practised rewriting from direct to indirect speech together with the teacher and the rest of the class. 

We gebruiken reported speech om op een later tijdstip te herhalen wat wij zelf hebben gezegd, of wat iemand anders heeft gezegd. 

Direct speech:
"We are trying to pay attention!"

Indirect speech: 
They said (that) they were trying to pay attention. 

Kijk op de volgende slide goed naar de twee zinnen (direct en indirect) en wat er in een andere kleur is geschreven. 

Probeer alvast de volgende vragen te beantwoorden voor jezelf: 

- Wat gebeurt er met de werkwoordstijd als je herschrijft van directe naar indirecte rede?

- Wat gebeurt er met persoonlijke voornaamwoorden (I, you, us, them) en bezittelijke voornaamwoorden (his, her, our) als je herschrijft van directe naar indirecte rede?

- wat gebeurt er met bijwoorden van plaats en tijd als je herschrijft van directe naar indirecte rede?

Direct speech:	Indirect speech:
"It is cold here ."	She said it was cold there .
" We w on our match yesterday ."	They said they had won their match the day before .
" I will help you ."	The teacher said he would help me
" I have written a book."	He said he had written a book.
" We have been working too hard today. "	They said they had been working too hard that day.
I'm going to do my homework tonight.	She said she was going to do her homework that night .

Which is correct?
"I'm working hard."
He said....

1. ...that he is working hard .
2. ...that he was working hard.
3. ...that he works hard.
4. ...that he worked hard .

Which is correct?
"I will meet you all at school tomorrow."
She said...

1. She will meet us all at school the next day.
2. she will meet us all at school tomorrow.

Which is correct?
"I haven't seen him since last night."
She said...

1. she hadn't seen him since the previous night.

Which is correct?
"You must hand in your book reports next week!"
The teacher said.....
