What are Bones?

Bones are rigid organs that make up the skeleton.

Functions of Bones

Bones provide support, protect organs, store minerals, produce blood cells, and enable movement.

Types of Bones

There are five types of bones: long bones, short bones, flat bones, irregular bones, and sesamoid bones.

Bone Structure

Bones consist of compact bone, spongy bone, bone marrow, periosteum, and articular cartilage.

Bone Growth

Bones grow through a process called ossification, which involves the deposition of new bone tissue.

Bone Development

In infancy, the skeleton is primarily made up of cartilage, which gradually gets replaced by bone.

Bone Diseases

Common bone diseases include osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, and rickets.

Bone Interactions

Bones work in conjunction with muscles, tendons, and ligaments to facilitate movement and maintain stability.
