Why?
  • Needed resources (coal, oil, rubber)
  • Military influence & nationalism → Wanted a larger empire
Key Events:
  • 1937: Invaded China
  • 1941: Pearl Harbor attack → U.S. joins the war
  • 1942: Conquered much of Southeast Asia
  • June 1942: Battle of Midway → Japan’s advance stopped
