Dictionary 

Keep in mind that using a dictionary is your last resort.

Because it takes a lot of time to search every word, sometimes you can:

- get the meaning from the context

- just ignore the word

- recognise the word from a similar looking word

Hoe 'lees' je een woordenboek. 

1. Het woord dat je moet opzoeken.
2. De uitspraak van het woord. 
3. Het aantal woordsoorten wordt aangeven, in dit geval 2, zowel een zelfstandig naamwoord als een werkwoord.
4. Woordsoort zoals bijvoorbeeld zelfstandig nw, werkwoord, bijvoeglijk naamwoor.
5. Hier vul je het woord in dat je hebt opgezocht.
6. Voorbeelden in het Engels worden schuingedrukt. 

Hoe gebruik je een woordenboek? 

Tips:

• De woorden staan op alfabetische volgorde.
• Gebruik de gidswoorden boven aan. Deze geven het 1e woord en het laatste woord van die pagina aan en helpen je beter zoeken naar het woord. 
• Bedenk welke vertaling het meest logisch in de zin is.
• Zoek naar de stam van het woord: zie volgende pagina.

Stam van het woord

It was extremely  cold outside.   >   stam = extreme

She loved her new phone.            >   stam = love

That is unfair.                                      >   stam = fair  

They are talking  too much.          >   stam = talk

How are the words in the dictonary organised?

1. Amount of letters in the word
2. Alphabetically (A, B, C, D...)
3. Randomised
