                    Adjective = bijvoeglijk naamwoord

Adjectives

Een bijvoeglijk naamwoord staat meestal voor het zelfstandige naamwoord waarover het iets zegt.

Na de werkwoorden to be, to look, to taste, to feel, to seem, to smell, to appear gebruik je een bijvoeglijk naamwoord en geen bijwoord.

You look amazing.

This pizza smells delicious.

Adverbs

Adverbs = bijwoord

Zegt iets over een werkwoord, een bijvoeglijk naamwoord of een ander bijwoord.

The band plays beautifully. 

Het bijwoord staat meestal achter het werkwoord.

That car goes incredibly fast.

Bijwoord incredibly versterkt het bijvoeglijk naamwoord fast.

He runs extremely rapidly.

Bijwoord extremely zegt iets over het bijwoord rapidly.

Wijziging spelling

Je vormt een bijwoord door er +ly aan het bijvoeglijk naamwoord toe te voegen. Zo wordt een bijvoeglijk naamwoord een bijwoord.

Honest > honestly

Soms verandert de spelling:
- happy > happily. Woord eindigt op -y
- basic > basically. Woord eindigt op -ic
- horrible > horribly. Woord eindigt in -le. Dit vervang je door -ly.
