Lines and angles

Parallel and Perpendicular

- You can draw lines that are parallel to each other, at a given distance or through a given point
- You can draw lines that are perpendicular to each other, through a given point.
- You can use signs in your drawing to indicate which lines are parallel and which lines are perpendicular
- You can read the symbols

What does the symbol // mean?

1. parallel
2. perpendicular

Distance => the shortest!!!

- You can measure the distance from one line to another
- You can measure the distance between a point and a line
- You can draw a circle to find all points at the same distance from a given point
PERPENDICULAR!!

What do you call the distance from the centre of a circle to the edge?

Types of angles

- You know when an angle is a right, acute or obtuse angle
- You can read the symbols

What does the symbol ° mean?

Angle P = 73°
What type of angle is angle P?

1. right
2. acute
3. obtuse
4. not right, acute or obtuse

Angle Q = 200°
What type of angle is angle Q?

1. right
2. acute
3. obtuse
4. not right, acute or obtuse

Types of angles

right angle                       acute angle                                  obtuse angle
90°                                       between 0° and 90°                  between 90° and 180°
An angle that is between 180° and 360° is a reflex angle (but you dont have to know this (yet....).

Working with angles

- You can measure the size of an angle
- You can draw an angle of a given size

Diagonals

- You can draw the diagonals in a given figure

Drawing figures

- You can use your knowledge of angles, parallel and perpendicular lines, diagonals and circles to draw figures with several given properties.

Draw triangle KLM with:

KM = 2 cm, 

First make a sketch!!

∠K=100°and∠M=55°

Construct (compasses!)

Triangle ABC with AB=6.5 cm, AC=6cm and BC = 2.5 cm
