Queen Elizabeth II

1926 - 2022

Queen Elizabeth II, the UK's longest-serving monarch, has died at Balmoral aged 96, after reigning for 70 years.

Elizabeth Windsor was born on 21 April 1926 but was not yet directly in line for the throne.

The king fell in love with a divorced American woman named Wallace Simpson, this was a huge scandal. 

The king abdicated in 1936 she became second in line for the throne

In WW2 Elizabeth was evacuated along with millions of other children.

Elizabeth joined the ATS and learned to drive, fix and service a lorry. 

After the war she married distant cousin Philip and had two children.

In January 1952, Elizabeth and Philip set off on a tour in the commonwealth. During this tour the King died.

All her life she had Corgi dogs which she loved.

In 1981, Charles married Diana. They had two sons, William and Harry, before they divorced. 

Diana died in a car accident in Paris in 1997. The Queen faced criticism for not appearing in public.

The Queen had four children, eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren

Prince Philip, her husband, died on 9 April 2021, aged 99 and after more than six decades at her side.
