Woordvolgorde is de manier waarop een Engelse zin opgebouwd is uit woorden.

Je houd een bepaalde volgorde aan van verschillende woorden en daar vorm je een correcte Engelse zin mee.

(wanneer?) - wie? - doet? - wat/wie? - waar? - wanneer?

I - am walking - to school - today.

Woordsoorten

Elk Engels woord hoort bij een woordsoort.
I - we = persoonlijke voornaamwoord
go = werkwoord
to the zoo = plaatsbepaling
always = bijwoord van frequentie
the = lidwoord

Engelse bijwoorden bijwoorden van onbepaalde tijd (zoals sometimes, never, usually, always, often) plaats je in een zin volgens onderstaand stappenplan:

1	De bijwoorden komen na het werkwoord, als dat werkwoord een vorm van to be is. To be: am – is – are – was – were He is always late. We were never married.
1	De bijwoorden komen voor het werkwoord, als er maar één werkwoord in de zin staat (dat géén vorm van to be is). I usually go to school by bike. We sometimes watch a horror film.
2	De bijwoorden komen na het eerste werkwoord als er meer werkwoorden in de zin staan. I have often flown to New York. We would never have called you, if we had known that you were ill.
