Language - Christopher's voice
In an interview, Mark Haddon said: "What I started with was the image of a dog with a gardening fork in it. Then I got Christopher’s toneless voice."
This ‘toneless voice’ is typical of someone with Asperger Syndrome. In real life this means that the voice of someone with Asperger Syndrome can sound monotonous – in other words their feelings are not expressed in their voice.
Find two examples in which this typical voice is used (so emotionless where you would expect emotions). Explain your choice.
Does Christopher never show any emotions in the story? Sustain your answer.
