• use signal words in your writing.
• write about events in the past.

Signal Words

Je kunt van twee zinnen één langere zin maken. Je gebruikt dan een voegwoord. De meest gebruikte zijn and, but, or en because.

Welk voegwoord?

1. They studied really hard, .... they did not pass the test.
2. Would you like some coffee .... tea?
3. They passed the test, ......... they studied really hard.
4. We went shopping ........ afterwards we had dinner in a fancy restaurant. 

1.3 Writing: Past simple

Past Simple: Regular Verbs

- verleden tijd

- de actie of gebeurtenis is nu gestopt

- je voegt -ed toe aan het werkwoord.

I visited London two years ago.  (to visist)

We travelled by plane.  (to travel)

He lived in Groningen during his childhood.  (to live)

1.3 Writing: Past simple

Past Simple: Irregular Verbs  > Learn by heart

- verleden tijd

- de actie of gebeurtenis is nu gestopt

- de vorm van het werkwoord verandert.

I went to London two years ago.   (to go)

We took a flight to Luton Airport.  (to take)

He was brought up in Groningen.   (to bring up)

Past Simple- Check

The meeting ...... (go) well yesterday.

We ..... (not go) to Spain last year.

Mary ....... (live) abroad for ten years.

John ...... (play) a lot of tennis when he was younger.

He....(meet) his wife in 1985.
