The Pianist, like many films about the Holocaust, can be difficult to watch, but remembering what happened is necessary. The real value here can be found in director Roman Polanski's haunting, harrowing tribute to the uniquely human instinct for survival.

Well-acted and dramatically moving, The Pianist is Polanski's best work in years. The Pianist is an adaptation of the autobiography from Szpilman who survived the Holocaust in Poland.

Reviews
THE PIANIST is the emotionally devastating true story of Wladyslaw Szpilman (Adrien Brody), a Jewish pianist in Poland caught up in the horrors of World War II.
A masterpiece on humanity vs. inhumanity, on the resilience and mercy of art, and on the personal horrors brought on by one of the world’s darkest events.

Reviews
Szpilman's struggle for survival against oppression is visceral and detailed, yet it is the redemptive power of music, of the great good of human civilization embedded in this dedicated individual that makes the film transcendent. Not only is he a survivor, he's the keeper of a priceless cultural tradition made flesh.

Reviews

Usually the films that are hardest to watch are also those that leave us the most emotionally affected. This was definitely a really tough watch with the sheer brutality and violence displayed, which unfortunately is expected given the time and subject matter.
