No Dutch please, we're British!
This is an English language work shop and so we speak English only. If you don't know a word in English, just ask the teacher or say the Dutch word. You always need to try and speak English. That way your English will improve.

Slide 3 - Diapositive

House rules
  1. Raise your hand if you want to speak or have a question.
  2. Listen to each other. Be quiet when someone else is talking.
  3. Be kind and don't laugh at others for trying.
  4. No gaming/social media unless the teacher says so.
  5. Orange slide is explainer, Blue slide is a question.

About
This is a workshop about Dutch culture and by the end you will:
  • know what your final assignment is - the poster;
  • how to make your final assignment;
  • understand why you need to know these things.

Slide 5 - Diapositive

The end product
At the end of the workshops you will have created a beautiful poster in the shape of something Dutch. Your poster will have important information that people coming to visit or live in the Netherlands can read to understand Dutch culture better.

Slide 6 - Diapositive

The end product - shape
The shape of your poster needs to represent Dutch culture. So think of anything that is typical Dutch that you could use.
For instance "een puntzak patat" or a pair of clogs.

Slide 7 - Diapositive

In your group try to come up with some ideas for the shape of your poster.

Individual work - writing
Start with brainstorming: write down words that you can think of in relation to your topic. For instance if you chose music write down words that are typically Dutch and associated with music. For instance:
  • smartlap
  • André Hazes
  • Palingsound
  • Nick & Simon etc.

Slide 11 - Diapositive

Individual work - writing
From your brainstorm chose 5 words you're going to write about.
Next think about what you know about these words.
Look it up on Google if you do not know much about it. Or ask your team mates!
Then write an interesting piece of information about each word. Make it fun to read!!!
In total you need to write 5 different texts.
Per word no less than 40 words.

Slide 12 - Diapositive

Individual work - writing
What is it?
What makes it typical Dutch?
Do other countries have something similar?
Write a (fun) fact about it.

Slide 13 - Diapositive

Individual work - writing
Use facts, don't make stuff up.
Use fun facts if you can find them.
Don't use ChatGPT or other AI tools - we will know.
Be creative!
