Both are used for: Past habits that do not happen now
-we used to stay at the campsite every year
NOT -we used to stay at the campsite last July (that's only once)
Would: to emphasize that the action is typical of a person or situation
- when we were little, it would always rain/dad would always dress up for my birthday
