My favourite tense!! 
It allows you to write a story within a sentece :)

Hoe maken:  had + voltooid deelwoord (past participle)
--> voltooid deelwoord kan onregelmatig zijn!

Past Perfect = voltooid verleden tijd
Use when: je meerdere momenten in het verleden bespreekt. 
Right after he had shouted to me, he ran away.

What happened first? What happened next?

Right after he had shouted to me, he ran away.

First: he shouted --> had shouted = Past Perfect
Next: he ran = Past Simple

1e actie = Past Perfect
2e actie = Past Simple

Connecting to prior knowledge
Je kent al de Present Perfect = have/has + voltooid deelwoord
He has broken his leg. 

Past Perfect = verledentijd vorm. Have/has veranderen in had. 
He had broken his leg before he came here.
