(+) verb + ed or irregular (2nd column)
He walked. You ate.
(-) didn't + verb
He didn't walk. You didn't eat.
(?) did ... + verb
Did he walk? Did you eat?
1) het is in het verleden en voorbij.
2) vaak samen met een tijdsbepaling
(in 2010, last year, one minute ago) of met het woord 'when'


Present Perfect
(+) has / have + past particple
He has walked. You have eaten.
(-) hasn't / haven't + past participle
He hasn't walked. You haven't eaten.
(?) has / have .... + past participle
Has he walked? Have you eaten?
1) in verleden gestart maar nog bezig 
2) in verleden gestart, heeft nog effect. 
3) signaalwoorden: since, yet, already, just, always, ever, never,
