The manorial system
The manorial system is the name we use for the way the people in the Middle Ages organized their economy.
Why? The manor was the building the lord lived in. This was the most important building.

Slide 8 - Diapositive

The manorial system
This system gave the peasants land and protection. They did have to become serfs and perform servile duties: all kinds of small jobs.
The lord lived off what the serfs produced. He could become quite rich and pay for soldiers.
Each domain was self sufficient: everything needed to survive was on the domain itself.
