Grammar: question tags
  • korte vragen aan het einde van de zin
  • in het Nederlands te vertalen met "hè?" of "toch?"
  • vaste plaats: aan het einde van de zin
  • is de zin bevestigend - er staat dus GEEN 'not' in de zin? Dan  gebruik je in de question tag WEL 'not'The weather is nice, isn't it?
  • is de zin ontkennend - er staat dus WEL 'not' in de zin? Dan gebruik je in de question tag GEEN 'not'It isn't raining, is it?
  • Welk werkwoord je in de question tag moet gebruiken, is afhankelijk van het werkwoord in de hoofdzin.

Grammar: question tags
  • Staat er een hulpwerkwoord in de hoofdzin, dan gebruik je dat ook in de question tag.
  • Hulpwerkwoorden: can/could, will/would, shall/should, to do, to have, ...
  • You can keep a secret, can't you?
  • He wouldn't hurt her, would he?
  • The President of the USA should set a good example, shouldn't he?
  • Tom didn't hurt her, did he?
  • We've got a break coming up, haven't we?

  • Staat er een vorm van to be (am/is/are, was/were) in de hoofdzin, dan gebruik je dat ook in de question tag

  • Our neighbours were on holiday, weren't they?

Future: will
Bij verwachtingen, voorspellingen en spontane beslissingen gebruik je will of won't (will not). Het gaat hier dus om de meest "vage" omstandigheden.
  • Mind you, it'll rain this weekend
  • Look at the weather, it's so nice, I will do my homework in the garden.
  • I'll stay home today, going to the shops with my mom won't be much fun now that half of them are closed.
  • He won't let you down, you'll see.

Vorm: will = bevestigend / won't = ontkennend
