Britain had colonies in North America, in 1776 the colonies revolted against GB. 

Why did they revolt?

1763: The British government started to interfere with the colonies and charge extra taxes. > protests, riots and boycot of English products

The colonies were not represented in the British Parliament
'Now taxation without representation'
extra taxes, why?
Well, England was very broke.

1773: British law that regulated the sale of tea in America

Action against this British meddling!
Dec 1773: Group of colonists dressed up as
Indians, climbed aboard of the ships carrying 
tea and threw all the bales of tea overboard!
>harsh punishments from Britain

Brits > formed the Continental Congress:
every colony was represented

1775: First fights break out in Massachusetts
