4.2 Revolution in America

Britain had colonies in North America, in 1776 the colonies revolted against GB. 

Why did they revolt?

1763: The British government started to interfere with the colonies and charge extra taxes. > protests, riots and boycot of English products

The colonies were not represented in the British Parliament

'Now taxation without representation'

extra taxes, why?

Well, England was very broke. 

Boston Tea Party

1773: British law that regulated the sale of tea in America

Action against this British meddling!

Dec 1773: Group of colonists dressed up as
Indians, climbed aboard of the ships carrying 

tea and threw all the bales of tea overboard!

1774: The colonies work together against the 

Brits > formed the Continental Congress:

every colony was represented

1775: First fights break out in Massachusetts

> Start of the American War of Independence

Independence from Britain

1776: American colonies wanted to be completely independent from the mother country, Britain. 

4th of July 1776: Declaration of Independence

1783: British government recognized the 

independence of the USA

The Founding fathers decided on a combo of a republic and a partnership between all the states > a Federation

- central government but..

- states remained independent
