Past simple

Een voltooide handeling op een moment in het verleden. 

De duur is niet belangrijk. 

Het kan lang geleden zijn, of juist recent. 

Past simple

Vaak staan er signaalwoorden in de zin. Woorden die een signaal afgeven dat de zin in de past simple, oftewel verleden tijd, staat. Dit kan vooraan of achteraan. 

Denk aan: yesterday, last week, last year, three days ago, in 1989. 

A long time ago, I visited my grandmother. 

I wanted to meet him yesterday.

Something started in the past and ended in the past. (2e uit het rijtje)
walk/walked/have walked - take/took/have taken

Hoe schrijf je de past simple?

Basisregel = -ed achter de stam

Maakt niet uit of je het over I, you, we of they hebt. 

- She washed her car.

- Last year, I travelled to Japan.

Uitzonderingen

1. Werkwoorden die eindigen op -e, krijgen alleen een -d > to bake - baked

2. Werkwoorden eindigend op -c, krijgen -ked > to panic - she panicked

3. Werkwoorden die eindigen op -y, krijgen -ied > to marry - she married

4. Korte werkwoorden met één klinker en maar één klemtoon mogelijk, krijgen een extra medeklinker > to swap - swapped

5. Werkwoorden die eindigen op een -l, met één klinker ervoor, krijgen een extra -l > to travel - travelled

Past continuous

Gebruik je als je aan wil geven dat je iets een tijdje deed. 

Je hebt twee werkwoorden nodig (was/were) + werkwoord met -ing

I was studying when he walked in to my room

We were playing football when he broke his arm

When I entered the room, everyone .....
