Something started in the past and ended in the past. 2e uit het rijtje: walk/walked/have walked - take/took/have taken

Past continuous

I was studying when he walked in to my room

We were playing football when he broke his arm

Something is happening, then it gets interrupted by this other thing 

Past tense of to be (was/were) + -ing verb .
