When do we use the past continuous?
  • The past continuous is used to describe that something was going on for a while.

  • The past continuous is used to describe that something was happening at a precise time in the past.

Past continuous: How do we form it?
  • Past form of 'to be' + -ing.
  • Two verbs are needed to form the past continuous.

  • I was working.                 I was not working.

  • Was he cooking?            When he phoned, I was watching TV.
