Government Policy 
Government policies can significantly impact commercial photographers and videographers in several ways.

Every territory comes with unique policy and support mechanisms so it is worth investigating what is at hand or could be beneficial to your career.

We will then look at types of Documentary or 'Modes'.

Licensing and Regulations:
Depending on the country and local regulations, photographers and videographers might need to obtain licenses or permits to operate commercially. These regulations can include requirements for drone use, filming in public spaces, and more.

Taxation
Tax policies can impact how photographers and videographers manage their income and expenses. Different tax laws and deductions might apply to self-employed individuals in the creative industry.

Sole Trader Status 
When you need to set up as a sole trader you need to set up as a sole trader if you earn over £1000 during the Tax year (April to April)

  • You have to be prepared to be responsible for losses the business makes.

  • You need to keep business records and records of expenses.

  • You have to send an annual tax return

  • You may also need to pay tax on profits and also National Insurance. 

  • You need to register for VAT if your turn over is over 85k a year

  • Of course, you will trade under a name that you can trademark so you own.

Intellectual Property
Government policies on intellectual property rights, copyright laws, and fair use can influence how photographers and videographers protect their work and how they earn income from their creations.
