Adjectives and Adverbs

An adjective says something about a noun.

BEYONCE IS A LADY.

Stel: je wilt iets meer info over haar geven. Hoe doe je dat? In Nederlands doe je dat door een bijvoegelijke naamwoord te gebruiken. In Engels ook. Het het: adjective

Beyoncé is a                beautiful               lady.

                                     adjective            noun

He talked.

Stel: Jee wilt meer info geeven over hoe hij dat doet.

An adverb says something about a verb.(werkwoord)

He         talked         nervously.

            verb              adverb

Het woord is: nervous. Vaak zet je een -ly erchter om het een bijwoord te maken.

adverb = adjective + ly

adjective:    the beautiful girl

adverb:         she sings beautifully

                      adjective -le             =             adverb -ly

                        terrible                                       terribly

    adjective:  consonant +y (easy)

    adverb:       ily (easily)

    adjective:  ends with -ic (fantastic)

    adverb:       +ally (fantastically)

Be careful!!

With some verbs (senses) you don't use an adverb but an adjective. 

to be (zijn), to seem , to feel , to smell , 

to sound , to taste

It smells terrible.

Some adjectives have a different adverb:

He is a good boy. - He studies well.

Sometimes it stays the same:

fast, long, fair, low

That is a fast car. - It drives fast.
