Past continuous vs. past simple

Past continuous

Als je wilt vertellen dat iets in het verleden voor een langere tijd aan de gang was, gebruik je de past continuous.

Om de past continuous te maken, gebruik je:

Was/were + werkwoord + ing

Was / were

Je gebruikt was bij I, he, she & it.

Je gebruikt were bij you, we & they.

Past continuous 2.0

I was working on my homework.

You were playing a game.

She was skating in the park.

They were biking to school.

Choose the correct form:
We ... (play) a game.

1. was playing
2. were playing

Choose the correct form:
I ... (writing) a story.

1. was writing
2. were writing

Past simple vs. past continuous

De past simple en de past continuous kun je in één zin gebruiken. 

De activiteit die dan het langst duurt, is de past continuous.

De activiteit die dan het kortst duurt, is de past simple.

2. Onregelmatig werkwoord

I tripped over something while I was running on the street.

You were playing a game, when you heard a noise.

The dog was playing when its owner called. 

He was writing a story when his laptop broke down. 

My sister fell while we were walking in the forest.

They were swimming in the ocean, when they saw a piranha.

Choose the correct form:
I ... (take) a shower, when you ... (call).

1. took, are calling
2. was taking, called

Choose the correct form:
My phone ... (break) while I ... (skate).

1. broke, was skating
2. was breaking, skated
