What is a gerund? What does it look like? What is it's function?

Gerund
Is a verb that has +ing added. It is NOT a continuous tense.
By adding +ing the word function changes from a verb (ww) to a noun (zelfstandig naamwoord)
It can be the subject in the sentence, or the object or come after a prepostion

= to + verb (e.g. to walk)
Certain verbs are always followed by an infinitive - you have to learn them!
Remember a modal verb is never followed by an infinitive
(e.g. I can go to school tomorrow - correct
not I can to go to school tomorrow)
