General rules for compound noun spacing
(does not always apply...)
connect words when:
  • both are 1 syllable long AND
  • first syllable is stressed
                 --> footprint
                 --> deadline

seperate words when 
  • the compound noun is 3 syllables or longer AND
  • first syllable is not stressed heavily
                --> "short circuit" --> stress is on "cir"
