iets is vroeger gebeurt en is nu afgelopen (de verleden tijd).

hoe herken je het?

vaak staat er in de zin woorden zoals: yesterday, last week, last year, in 2006, this morning, etc.

I walked to school this morning.

Did you see Greg yesterday?

Past simple

Bij regelmatige werkwoorden komt er in de past simple +ed achter het werkwoord. Let hierbij op de gebruikelijke spellings regels.

I walk --> I walked

I carry --> I carried

I step --> I stepped

I live --> I lived

Past simple

Onregelmatige werkwoorden hebben in de past simple een eigen vorm.  (Pagina 254)

Fout: I get --> I getted 

Goed: I get --> I got

Past simple

Bij ontkenningen (-) en vragen (?) gelden zowel bij regelmatige en onregelmatige werkwoorden dezelfde regels.

ontkenningen: Didn't + hele werkwoord

I didn't like (ww. to like)

Vragen: Did + hele werkwoord

Did I see? (ww. to see)

Uitzondering: ww. to be

Dit werkwoord heeft 2 vormen in de past simple en krijgt bij vragen en ontkenningen geen did/didn't.

I was there/You were there.

I wasn't there/You weren't there.

was I there?/Were you there?
