Reading: Exercise 1
‘We’ve Never Read the Books’

Dutch Game of Thrones actress Carice van Houten, who plays Melisandre in the popular fantasy series, says that the debate whether the show should stick more closely to the books is irrelevant for most of the cast. ‘We’ve never read the books,’ she explains.
The series, based on the bestselling novels by George R.R. Martin, tells a gripping story of seven kingdoms and royals competing for the Iron Throne. The often bloody tale has captured the imagination of people all over the world.
There are plenty of surprises in the TV series, and some of the changes raised questions whether the show had become too far removed from the books.
