Vancouver

Vancouver heeft 600.000 inwoners en ligt aan de westkust van Canada. De skyline is imposant en steekt prachtig af tegen de achtergelegen North Shore Mountains. Vancouver heeft de perfecte mix van cultuur en natuur. Je vindt er meer dan 180 stadsparken en je kunt walvissen en orka’s spotten voor de deur. Het is tevens de hipste stad van het land.

Stanley park is het oudste park van Vancouver en is een prachtig, dichtbebost natuurgebied met eeuwenoude bomen. Bij Brockton Point staan 9 totempalen die de verhalen vertellen van het land en haar eerste inwoners. 

Capilano Suspension Bridge is één van de populairste bezienswaardigheden in Vancouver, een smalle loopbrug van 140 meter lang over de Capilano River.

Het uitzicht vanuit de brug is fenomenaal mooi. Naast de brug ligt het Capilano River National Park. Hier vind je nog meer bruggen tussen de boomtoppen, prachtige tuinen en wandelpaden.

De grootste sport in Canada is ijshockey, ofwel hockey voor Canadezen. De sport is hier net zo belangrijk als voetbal is voor Nederland. In Vancouver kun je naar een wedstrijd van de Canucks. IJshockey is niet voor watjes, het gaat er hard aan toe en de supporters zijn bloedfanatiek.

Introduction

Met de term poëzie (poetry) worden gedichten (poems) bedoeld.

Gedichten herken je vaak aan hun uiterlijk: korte regels, veel wit om die regels heen en soms woorden die rijmen. 

In deze les maak je kennis met de Canadese dichteres Sheree Fitch. Zij gebruikt het liefst woorden waar je je tong over kunt breken, zogeheten tongue twisters.

En dan nu.......:

• Swan swam over the sea. Swim, swan, swim! Swan swam back again. Well swum, swan!

• Fuzzy wuzzy is a bear. Fuzzy wuzzy has no hair. Fuzzy wuzzy isn't very fuzzy is he?

• Through three cheese trees three free fleas flew. While these fleas flew, freeze breeze blew. Freezy breeze made these three trees freeze. Freezy trees made these trees cheese freeze. That's what made these three free fleas sneeze.
