Present Continuous

De duurvorm in de tegenwoordige tijd noemen we in de Engelse taal de present continuous. Kijk bijvoorbeeld naar de volgende zinnen:

- Ik ben aan het sporten.

- We zijn aan het zingen.

- Bram zit te gamen.

Deze zinnen staan allemaal in de duurvorm tegenwoordige tijd. Het vindt allemaal NU plaats.

Hoe maak ik die?

Om de present continuous te maken heb je altijd 2 werkwoorden nodig. Namelijk een vervoeging van to be + werkwoord met -ing erachter.

- I am reading the newspaper right now.

- He is laughing at me at the moment.

- Do your hear that as well? She is waking up!

- Cynthia is currently cycling to school.

Past Continuous VS Past Simple

De past simple is de meeste simpele vorm en de past continuous gebruik je als wilt aangeven dat je iets in het verleden een tijdje deed.

Signaalwoorden voor de past simple zijn bijvoorbeeld: yesterday, last week, last year, three days ago, a long time ago, in 1989, etc.

Signaalwoorden voor de past continuous zijn: when, while, at the same time.
