Past perfect
- Completed in the past, before something else happened
= Had + past participle

I had walked to the supermarket before I realised I forgot to wear shoes


Past continuous
- Ongoing event in the past, while something else happened
= Was/were + ing

I was walking to the supermarket, when I realised I forgot to wear shoes.

Past simple
- Event in the past, short duration + facts.
= past simple vorm (ed, 2e rij)

I walked to the supermarket without shoes.
