een betrekkelijke bijzin

als je extra informatie over iets of iemand wilt geven, gebruik je een relative clause (betrekkelijke bijzin)

Zo'n zin begint meestal met who, which of that. 

In het nederlands gebruik je  'die' of 'dat'

een betrekkelijke bijzin in het Nederlands:

Mijn moeder, die alle dagen van de week werkt, is altijd moe

een betrekkelijke bijzin in het Engels:

Sam, who lives next door, is my best friend

Functie: Geeft een betrekkelijke bijzin alleen extra informatie over iets of iemand dan staat deze zin tussen komma's.

(je zou de bijzin zelfs weg kunnen laten en dan klopt de zin nog.)

soms is de bijzin noodzakelijk om te begrijpen over wie of wat de zin gaat. in zo'n bijzin kun je who, which of that vaak weglaten. let op! hier geen komma's nodig:

This is the man (who) I was talking about.

Dancing is a hobby (which) I can't get enough of. 

How to use it??

• who     - bij mensen                                              Na het onderwerp
• which  - dieren en dingen                                 Na het onderwerp
• that      - personen, dieren, dingen                Na het onderwerp
                      = informeler dan who/which)

whose and whom

• Whose->  gebruik je bij mensen, dieren en dingen om bezit aan te geven.

The girl whose book I borrowed is my friend.; This is the cat whose fur has black stripes. ;That is the house whose owner died.

• Whom -> gebruik je bij mensen in combinatie met een voorzetsel zoals:  with, to, about, for, etc.  -->  who verandert met een voorzetsel erbij in whom

Is that the boy with whom you are going out tonight? 

This is the celebrity about whom the newspaper has been writing a lot recently. 

We had spaghetti .... is my favourite meal, for dinner last night.

Comic Con experiences

It was a great weekend for all lovers of science fiction, fantasy and comic books, because London Comic Con took place! Below you can post your experiences. What did you like most about the event?

The London Comic Con is an event (1)                                               I've wanted to visit for a long time! It didn't disappoint. There was so much to see and do! My brother and I dressed up as our favourite book characters, Spiderman and the Green Lantern! Comic Con is a festival (2)                                                 everyone should go to at least once.

I attended a workshop by my favourite comic book artist Kathy Wong. She showed us how to draw cartoon characters, (3)                                              also happens to be my hobby! They also showed the pilot of a new series called Empires, (4)

I had heard a lot of good things about. The director, (5)

 also directed Impossible, talked about his ideas behind the series. Very interesting! Some of the actors, (6)

 were dressed up as their characters, gave autographs, but you could also take selfies with them!
