When to use ?

Ask:

1. Is the thing nearby or further away?

2. Is the thing singular (enkelvoud) or plural (meervoud)?

The words this, that, these and those are used when you talk about specific things or people.

If something is nearby, you use either this or these

examples: (over) here, next to me, right here, closeby, 

If somthing is further away you use either that or those

examples: (over) there, across the room, behind the counter, next to the door, around the corner
