What is a skeleton?
Our skeleton is an important part of our body, it consists of 206 bones. Bones are made out of hard bone and cartilage.
  • Hard bone (with calcium) makes it stronger
  • Cartilage makes it more flexible

When you get older your bones will have less cartilage

Slide 12 - Diapositive

The functions
Our skeleton has 3 very different but very important jobs to help us survive:
       Movement                            Support                               Protection

Slide 13 - Diapositive

Types of skeletons
Many organisms look completely different from each other and they have many different types of skeletons:

  • Endoskeleton: skeleton on the inside of the body
  • Exoskeleton: skeleton on the outside of the body
  • Hydroskeleton: made out of water
