What is an Essay?

1. A piece of writing that discusses a topic, expresses an opinion, and gives reasons for your opinion.
2. A piece of writing that is adressed to somebody which starts with Dear or hello.
3. A piece of writing in which a fictional story is told.
4. A piece of writing that gives an opinion about a movie or a book,

Phases of Essay Writing

• Brainstorm = Decide what ideas you want to write about and create an essay outline
• Drafting = Writing of your Essay
• Editing = Correcting and improving your work

What is a Thesis Statement?

A Thesis Statement should let your learners know what the essay is about and what your opinion is. This will help you guide your writing and focus your arguments.
