Present simple vs continuous

Lesson goals.

• At the end of class we know the difference between the present simple and continuous.

Give examples of the present simple and continuous.

Present simple

We use the present simple when we talk about:

• habits (gewoontes) 
• regularity (regelmatigheid)
• facts (feiten) 

Examples

- This book has a red color. (feit)

- Bart always bites his nails. (gewoonten)

- These kids often play with each other. (regelmatigheid)

Present continuous

• het is nu bezig /nu aan de gang
• duurt een tijdje
• plannen in de toekomst
• irritatie

am/are/is + hele werkwoord + -ing

She is walking in the park at the moment.

We are eating dinner now.

Examples

- I am reading the newspaper right now.

- He is laughing at me at the moment.

- Do your hear that as well? She is waking up!

- Cynthia is currently cycling to school.
