4.2 Present Perfect
Present Perfect: have/has verb+ed or past participle (3rd irr.v.)

  • An action/event that started in the past and is relevant in the present -> She hasn't eaten all day. (= She's hungry now...:()

  • Situations that started in the past and continue up to now
    ->
    They have taught at this school for 5 years now.

  • Life experiences -> Have you ever broken a bone?




past simple
= talk about finished actions in the past. You usually say when they happened --> Last weekend I went to Amsterdam. She ate a sandwich yesterday. He slept until 12pm.

4.2 Present Perfect
  • Since = show the exact point in time when it started = gebruik je vanaf een specifiek punt: ​ 9 o’clock, last Monday, 1st of January​, 2023
  •                                          I have had my laptop since 2020.
  • For = to show duration of a period of time = gebruik je bij een periode:​ Two weeks, five minutes, 6 years​
  •                                          I have had my laptop for 3 years.
  • To create a question: use HOW LONG + have + past participle (verbED / 3rd column) = For how long have you had your laptop?

with JUST (= net): Emily has (Emily'sjust scored
with ALREADY (= al): Serena has already retired.
with (N)EVER (= (n)ooit): I have never played baseball.
with ALWAYS (= altijd): They have always done well.
= is written in the middle of the Present Perfect!
with YET (= nog): We haven't played against that team yet
= is written at the end of the sentence!
