1. Hi, my name is Peter. I am 18 years old, and I live with my cat. I also have a plant called Tony, he's my little friend, perhaps you can meet him someday. However, today is not about me, I am going to talk about cars.

2. Cars are used for the means of transport, we can travel a long distance in a short amount of time if travelled by a car compared to travelling on foot. It was first invented in 1769 by Nicolas Joseph Cugnot in France, but the vehicle he invented was a three wheeled automobile which was quite heavy and had very slow speed, and it worked only with steam.

A topic sentence is the most important sentence in a paragraph. It's specific enough to give a clear sense of what to expect from the paragraph, but general enough that it doesn't give everything away. You can think of it like a signpost: it should tell the reader which direction your argument is going in.
It grabs the reader's attention.
